Rest timers

Set rest times that fit your workouts and choose how Reps alerts you between sets.

How rest timers work

Rest timers are enabled by default when you first use Reps. When you complete a set, Reps automatically starts the timer assigned to that exercise.

Each exercise can use the default timer, a custom rest timer, or no timer.

If the next set is a Drop Set, Reps waits until you complete the drop set before starting the timer.

Change the default timer

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Under Rest Timers, tap Default Timer.

  3. Choose a preset time, or tap Custom and enter your own.

The Default rest timer picker with two minutes selected, other preset times, and Custom.

This becomes the default timer for every exercise set to Use default.

During a workout, you can also tap the time and hourglass beside an exercise name, then tap the settings button beside Use default to change the default timer.

Set a rest timer for one exercise

  1. During a workout, tap the time and hourglass beside the exercise name.

  2. Choose a preset time, or tap Custom and enter your own. This gives the exercise its own rest timer instead of using the default.

The exercise Rest timer picker with Use default selected, preset times, Custom, Off, and Turn off rest timers.
  3. To return the exercise to the default timer, choose Use default. To disable only this exercise’s timer, choose Off.

If you start a workout without a routine, the timer you choose is saved for that exercise. Reps will use that timer the next time you add the same exercise to a workout started without a routine.

Rest timers for routines

Rest timers saved in a routine apply only to that routine. If you change an exercise’s timer while using a routine, Reps saves the change to that routine. The same exercise can use a different timer in another routine.

Use a rest timer during a workout

Complete a set to start its rest timer. The countdown appears at the bottom of the workout. Tap Skip if you are ready to continue before the timer finishes.

Turn off all rest timers

You can turn off rest timers from two locations:

  • Open Settings. Under Rest Timers, turn off Rest Timers.
  • During a workout, tap the time and hourglass beside an exercise name, tap Turn off rest timers, then tap Turn Off.

You can turn rest timers back on from Settings. Reps keeps your default and exercise-specific times so they are available when you re-enable the feature.

Reset exercise timers to the default

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Under Rest Timers, tap Clear Saved Timers.

  3. Tap Clear All.

This clears the timers saved for individual exercises in workouts started without a routine. Those exercises use the default timer again. Timers saved in routines are not changed.

Choose rest timer alerts

Under Rest Timers in Settings, use Sound and Vibration to choose how rest timers alert you.
